New West End manga musical Your Lie in April has posted early closing notices for its run at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London.
The show was scheduled to run until 21 September 2024, but will now close on 11 August 2024.
Your Lie in April is based on the global hit Japanese manga and anime, and stars Zheng Xi Yong (Spring Awakening, Barbie, Silo) as Kosei Arima, alongside Rachel Clare Chan (Death Note, Oliver!) as Tsubaki Sawabe, Dean John-Wilson (The King and I, Aladdin) as Ryota Watari, and Mia Kobayashi as Kaori Miyazono.
The cast also includes Ernest Stroud, Jojo Meredith, Chris Fung, Eu Jin Hwang, Daniel Nardone, Ericka Posadas, Lucy Park, Gracie Lai, Imogen Law Hing Choy and Ria Tanaka.
The Producers said in a statement: “We are proud to have made history by bringing the first manga musical from the Far East to the West End and to have given the opportunity for the first 100% Asian and Southeast Asian cast to perform in a West End musical. Our journey from two sold out concerts at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to a full West End production at The Harold Pinter Theatre (hosting its first musical since 2016) turned around in a matter of weeks due to popular demand. We are immensely proud of the show and the amazing work from the creative team, cast, crew, and musicians – and we thank them for their dedication and incredible work. It is particularly exciting to us how many people made Your Lie in April their first ever West End musical experience. And to our audiences who dressed the part and cheered them on, we say Bravo!”
Last week the show announced that fans are encouraged to come to the show on Sundays dressed as their favourite characters inspired by the show – or other manga/animes, with the CosPlay Sundays running on the 6pm show each Sunday.
Your Lie in April, one of the most beloved romantic stories and tearjerkers in Japanese manga history, features music by multi-Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award-nominated Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn (Death Note The Musical, Jekyll & Hyde, Bonnie & Clyde), with lyrics by Carly Robyn Green and Tracy Miller. The production is directed and choreographed by Nick Winston (Burlesque The Musical, Death Note The Musical, Fame, Annie, Bonnie & Clyde).
The romantic story centres on the story of K?sei Arima, a young piano prodigy who is unable to play following his mother’s death. He strikes a friendship with violinist Kaori Miyazono and she slowly encourages him to perform again.
Your Lie in April is playing the Harold Pinter Theatre to 11 August 2024.
Any ticket holders for performances after 11 August will be contacted by the point of purchase.
