He is the Director of White Rose The Musical and we asked him about the show:
- Hi Will. What is this new musical about?
Sure! White Rose the Musical is a musical based on the inspiring true story of a group of students during the 1940s Germany University of Munich students who spoke truth to power. wrote and distributed anonymous leaflets and basically through their actions, although they paid the ultimate sacrifice for their life, they were able to light a pilot light in messages that are still being felt today.
- Can you tell us something about the company and how the rehearsals are going?
Yeah, when I cast the show I didn't even hold auditions. I have found each and every one of these amazing actors online.
I mean I had been fans of many of them before because many of them have performed as leads in West End shows. Still, a lot of them are covers or understudies and what I wanted to do for each of them is to realize that they are stars, and so for a lot of them even if they've done West End shows it's really their first original role so that's been kind of an honour. Still, it's what they all deserve because not only as individuals but as a collective, these are not only amazingly talented humans they're kind humans.
- Why should people come to see the musical?
I think in a world today that is filled with a lot of dis-ease and diseases, this is a firm reminder that acts of resistance can be done small and large, that we are all human beings, part of this planet, and have the opportunity and the obligation to speak up for what is right and for what is wrong.
In that, the “White Rose” are within all of us and although it's, unfortunately, a universal and timely and timeless message, it's also a reminder of courage and inspiration that we all can gain from everyday acts of kindness.
White Rose the Musical runs at the Marylebone Theatre 27 February - 13 April. Tickets: here.
